FairUse (http://fairuse.sourceforge.net/) All-in-one DVD to XviD & DivX backup tool

FairUse is a DVD backup software designed to be very easy to use. A step-by-step "wizard" interface makes turning DVD into high quality DivX or XviD files a breeze. Please note that you should only use it to make backups of DVDs you already own.

Main features :

High quality DVD to DivX and XviD conversion
Automated AC3 to MP3, OggVorbis transcoding and muxing
AVI, OggMedia, and Matroska containers support
File splitting

Just a note. This is a very simple program to use but, it is very time intensive. For example, a 1 1/2 hour movie will take around 3 hrs for it to be ripped, transcoded and converted to the new XviD/DivX format. I haven't used the DivX option yet but, the quality of the XviD burn "both video and audio" was very near DVD quality and it fits on a single CD! Guess that I'll put off buying that DVD burner for awhile! :)

Seqrets, I was able to get as far as copying a movie and playing it on wmp9 but there is no sound. I am sure I have all the codecs installed. Maybe it was something I didn't do in FairUse wizards recording process?

ps I also tried to play it using PowerDVD. Still no sound.

Also, how do you burn it to cdr?

Okay, I now know I am supposed to use Nero to burn the movie. I have 6.0.0.9 version. When the Nero wizard pops up on the left side there's CD ROM (ISO), Audio CD, Mixed Mode CD, etc. Which one do I use?

Thanks

Q: The movie I just encoded looks fine, but has no audio.

A: Make sure you added at least one audio track to your encoding session.

Under Audio encodings, click the Stream and then the Add button.

With the Nero Wizard, Select CD>> Compile a new CD>> Data CD>> Create a new data CD?>> Finish. You can also burn it as a VCD but, that is a longer process and unless you plan on playing it on a set top DVD player, it will have to support VCD files. There are some newer Set top DVD players on the market that will support DivX files as well but, I belive that they are still in the $200 range.

Just added links to some dvd players thare capable of playing vcd / svcd and divx files.
