I just recently got ~Burnout 2: Point of Impact~ for my GameCube (which has some nifty extras over the other versions). And all I can say is this -- Holy Freakin' Cow!!

The graphics are decent, but not spectacular. The music is okay, though pretty generic. And the racing cars are downright bland. But it's face-paced ... with tight control ... and easy to play from the get-go.

Yet what really sells this game are the crashes!

Burnout 2 undoubtedly has the greatest car crashes of any title in the history of videogames -- period! In most racing games, you try to avoid wiping out at all costs. After all, you're trying to win, right? But the Burnout crashes are so doggone incredible, you simply cannot resist the temptation of purposely ramming everyone around you at very frequent intervals.

I've smashed into the rear-end of another vehicle at 140 MPH ... had my car thrown 95 feet into the air, doing non-stop barrel rolls all the way ... watched half-a-dozen other wrecks occur below me as I soared through the air ... only to come down on top of a bus ... which then slammed into a semi-truck ... that jack-knifed sideways down the road ... with 12 more cars piling into the group before finally settling down ... as a single tire then rolls away from the whole smoldering mess!

And all of this happens in gorgeous slow-motion! The computer takes control of every Burnout crash ... showing everything at about one-tenth normal speed ... with the camera constantly changing directions to keep ya abreast of what's happening where. Have ya ever seen the movie ‘Driven’ with Sly Stallone (a boring flick, but it sure had some great crash scenes!)? The wrecks in that film have nothing on this game!

They will literally make anyone who's watching you play go Ooohhh & Ahhhhh in wondrous delight. These crashes simply must be experienced to be appreciated. They're beautiful, awesome, and spectacular. Burnout 2 is an arcade-type racer. If you're looking for a realistic driving game, this one definitely won't qualify. But if the thought of a breathtaking 25-car pile-up strikes your videogame fancy, you won't find a better title anywhere for satisfying that inner bloodlust!
