A friend has asked how he should connect his DVD player to his WebTV in order to upload images from a disk. He says he tried going direct with the S-Video cable but that didn't work. I have some ideas, but have no experience on which to give sound advice.

For example, I heard the S-Video cable won't work by design so that DVDs cannot be copied. I also heard it is best to use the RCA jacks to go from the DVD player to the TV and out of the TV via cable to the LBB. I also heard an inexpensive A/B switch may be required if a VCR is also involved. Anyone want to give me some input to pass along to my friend? Any good webpages for reference? What say you?

I coneect my PS2 with RCA cables (Monster Cable brand). Just connect them to the audio/video input on the Plus Unit. That's the same way I connect my digital camera.

I tried S-Video and the quality was terrible. Don't know why though.

DVD's are already being copied.

Later, Art.

Also,

If he's planning on doing VidCaps from DVD's, advise him to view them on a PC prior to using them on a page/site. Most of them look okay on Webtv, but crap on a PC screen. It's the TV resolution lines that mess them up.

P.S. I don't really coneect mPS2, I connect it.

I use the RCA cables connected to the video in on the back of my Webtv too. The image in my sig and my avatar and all of the images on my screen captures site are vidcaps taken from dvds with my Webtv.

If they decide they want to copy anything to tape I bring my PS2 in to the other room and hook it up to a system selector box which is between my PS2 and the vcr so the copy protection doesn't work.
