Anyone know of an e-mail provider that does not require Java Script to be enabled, fee for service is ok.

Yahoo, Hotmail and Mail.com do, yahoo has been excellent for the last year or so, but as of last Monday you must be able to do the Java Script thingeee or it no workeee, no foeward, no Reply, no Reply-all.

I'm sure your aware with webtv you can not, their usual response when asked why not, they're working the problem, when asked how long, it's Duh...

Anyone know why they cannot ??? would like to know for future reference.

Any help as always is appreciated. TIA

I'm not able to answer the question concerning the why nots , but this week Yahoo has added more anti-spam protection to both it's free and fee based e-mail accounts...probably this explains the new changes to how the system works...how long it will take to get back the ability to perform basic functions on the webbie will actually depend on how many complaints they receive-the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Howdy --

Say, aren't you a Webber? If so, then ‘enabling’ JavaScript isn't a concern, since we can't disable it even if desired. So why does that matter?

Anyway, several weeks ago, I dumped my 3 old Yahoo e-mail accounts in favor of 3 new HotMail addys. I don't know about those recent Yahoo changes Jon mentioned, but everything at HotMail works fine for me (except for the outgoing signature option, which has never functioned at all since day one).

I think the page design at HotMail is much more professional. And since MSN runs both outfits, I figure there should be -- at least, in theory -- fewer compatibilty issues.

Fewer compatability issues yes-but the spam at hotmail is beyond belief-hotmail is my original account that came with MSN dial-up. I swear Microsoft sells our addies, Between the webbie and hotmail I must get over 50 spams a day.I finally went to filtering all mail in my hotmail acount into the junk mail folder, then as mail comes in I want to allow in my inbox and onto my computer I designate it as not junk-it stores the addy into my address book and then allows that senders mail though at any time. Yahoo has next to no junk and I actually use that addy most of the time.
As a suggestion you might want to check GESTS (http://www.mailaroo.com) mail service-Mailaroo. I didn't have any problems with it being webbie compatible, no spam, and a freindly and helpful owner that you always know how to reach.

:D Hi folks,
E-mail is a serious "YMMV" issue. My experiences are more like Jon's with MSN-Hotmail. We've got MSN for a "Content Provider" and Ruthie uses their E-mail a lot. The addy she uses gets a fair amount of spam. I have an addy there also, that I never use - and it gets as much spam as Ruthie's. Currently, all our MSN spam is related to women who love their pets. (It's a weird weird world, folks! )

Meanwhile, my Yahoo account, which I use as a spam trap, gets maybe one or two a week. I don't have the spam filters enabled. I use the Yahoo addy to do business with outfits we don't know about.

Meanwhile #2, my 2 Mailaroo accounts, which I use most often, have received a grand total of zero unsolicited E-mails since February.

Discussions like this one usually wind up with people swearing at Hotmail, but not always.

One never knows, do one?

Have fun,
Steve

Hotmail mail may have a better look then yahoo but they have to many restrictions, size of mail coming in plus storage space, if you need a larger storage area you can add more at cost but only if your MSN-8 capable, a-year ago their free storage was only 2mg's, Yahoo is 4, Mail.com is 10, Draac 7, I'll check Mailroo.

Like Steve said the spam will drive you nuts, 75 a day, but filtering does work, my problem with Hotmail was large amounts of in coming mail, kept going over their limit, they kept sending warnings, I kept ignoring their warnings, eventually they said the hell-lo with you and locked me out.

As far as dealing with junk mail goes, I use sneakemail works great last a long time, plus my webtv addi, I keep the box full, been that way for close to two years, the only ones that get in are WEBTV/MSNTV Corp.

Danny as far as Why goes, a great man once said or maybe it was a great woman, mine is not to ask the reason why, mine is only to do or die.

Gents Thanks for RE's, it's appreciated as always, the quest for a perfect e-mail provider continues

Yep! You always know where to find the WebMaster @ Mailaroo.com ~grin~

For the record, the Zone hosts the domain, http://www.mailaroo.com/ which is powered by the EveryOne.net. You can have as many accounts as you can handle, each account can store 6 Mb, and unwanted mail can be blocked with an account SPAM filter.

Thanks Gest, I'll be checken it out a little later today.

My self I'd like to see the Zone start an outside e-mail service, for members only, is it do-able, that's not a question, just a statement, I'd be willing to pay extra for it, as I'm sure many other Zones would.

Just a thought.

i signed up for fastmail.fm, have to say it's rather impressive so far, i haven't tried everything out such as the address book yet. their basic/guest service is free but hella seriously considering the $19.95 a year deal... just with the free service you have tons of options, can block anything coming in over a certain filesize, can fake bounce email *pretty cool*, includes notepad, apparently multiple sigs, etc., along with the usual standard stuff. when you set up mail there have to set daylight/standard time manually...just as an fyi since tonight's the night it switches up.

mailaroo i attempted but wasn't able to sign up for on webtv(2.8.1), can't get past the country and province(? if i recall correctly) fields, presume it's something in the form on everyone.net's end... but if you're on comp as well then you should be able to get around that.

hotmail i've used before, it's beyond me why anyone uses them for email. especially on a webtv.

also, managed to revert one of my yahoo accounts back to their old mail system and is currently working fine, don't know how long that will last though. it was a bit of a pain...actually more time consuming than anything...don't intend to do it more than once unless i absolutely have to.

To No One In Particular --

Hmmmmm ... the ‘anti-HotMail’ sentiment shown here may be very well founded. After all, as I said, I'm just getting started there. However, I might end up a bit luckier than most folks.

Two of my accounts were set up to automatically delete all mail from everywhere, period ... except when arriving from a pre-approved address. So I'm thinking that extremely little junk should get through those filters.

And my third account is intended as a junk mail magnet. I use it for stuff like -- online subscriptions ... guestbook entries ... corporate inquiries ... public mailing lists ... and web page contact info. So obviously no concern with junk mail is warranted in this case.

I tried the mailroo my self yesterday, it wouldn't accept Country, it just may be the 2.8.1 or they just don't like Yankeees.

But then again, I don't care for Yankeees either, I'm a Phillies Fan

As far as webtv e-mail goes, they can keep it, it's ugly plus it has no BCC.

It looks like we need a PC user to test the sign up link for Mailaroo.

It's very possible the sign up page is no longer secure enough for MSN/WebTV's standards. I spent some time going through sign up methods as both a user and a partner, and e-mailing customer service via a secure page. When I hit the submit button my LBB was knocked off-line in all three attempts. It may very well be the code is to blame, but it may also be MSN/WebTV's high security requirements. Such was the initial case, as I recall, with the 2.6 upgrade. When the glitches were discovered and corrected, many of us enjoyed on-line banking for the first time.

:D Hi GEST,
No sooner asked: "It looks like we need a PC user to test the sign up link for Mailaroo", than accomplished.

I just signed up at Mailaroo via PC with no trouble at all - start to finish about 2 minutes.

Have fun,
Steve

Thank you, Steve. Now, we at least know it is a WebTV problem. What to do. What to do, eh? :rotfl:

I've written an e-mail to MichaelD (M7) asking him to review this forum thread and help us investigate the cause of the problem with his technical contacts at MSNtv. I have no better idea on how to seek help. Trying to get Go-WebTV inolved in this could be an impossible task. Hopefully, Mike will help resolve the issue. We'll see.
